The car has resided for at least the past 2 years in a self storage depot near Castle Donington. Getting dusty but not rusty.
We paid a bit more than the stipulated £100 for the pink beauty, but then rules are there to be broken. A friend's boyfriend volunteered to help us get the car to Sheffield using a borrowed A frame.
It is now the beginning of October and we have done quite a bit of fettling on the car and she goes, more or less where directed by the steering wheel and stops on the button, as long as the button is just to the right of the direction we're driving. Harry and the crew at Red Lion Garage on Broadfield Road have currently got her for an MOT and hopefully just a few adjustments.
In no time we'll be driving like this...
The clip is a 1969 DDR advert for the Trabant 601. If they can fit four grown men (with crash helmets) and all that luggage in the car, two of us and supplies for the desert will be fine!
