It wasn't that the article about taking part in the Plymouth Dakar was about an old Porsche that attracted our attention but the throwaway line about the Bedford CF ice cream van looking out of place headed for the desert. Shortly after Dominic noticed that one of the regular contributors to the Morris forum was posting messages that rung a bell.
If the Challenge could be done in an ice cream van, a 1955 Morris Minor and a Porsche it looked like something that a couple of fortysomethings working in the world of museums needed to have a go at.
Because of the pressures of work (and a mortgage) it is quite some time since either of us has done any real travelling. If you have ever spent the time it takes to drink a few pints with Chris you will have heard about her time in India. Dominic's travels may have been more European but the fact that he (eventually) got a degree in Development Studies from UEA means a lot more to him than many might think.
Dominic works in the marketing department of Sheffield Galleries & Museums Trust where he looks after the website and runs campaigns for exhibitions. Until the end of July 2006 Chris also worked at SGMT where she managed the decant and installation of the collections at redeveloped Weston Park Musuem. Since August she has been House and Collections Manager at Nostell Priory.
We didn't make it up, see the links page for links to the Creamy Treats ice cream van and Ray's Morris Minor.
